Take part in the public consultation
The SBTi welcomes feedback from all interested parties.
This includes industry professionals, business associations, academics and think tanks, public sector bodies and regulators, civil society organizations, other voluntary standard setters and actors across the corporate sustainability ecosystem and the wider public. Your input can help refine the draft, ensuring it meets the needs of its intended users and serves the SBTi’s mission to drive science-based climate action in the corporate sector.
To participate in the consultation, we recommend:

- Reviewing the full draft standard
- Reading our blog series, covering key themes in the draft: scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, progress and environmental attribute certificates (EACs)

While the SBTi welcomes all comments, input on the following topic areas are of particular interest:
- Criteria based on company categorization
- Scope 1 target-setting
- Scope 2 target-setting
- Identification of relevant emissions sources in the value chain (scope 3)
- Alignment targets
- The proposed approaches for carbon removals between 2030 and the net-zero year
- Claims related to conformity assessment throughout the validation model cycles
- Clarity, credibility and completeness of the draft standard
Contributing your expertise will help us develop a final standard that is science-based, innovative and pragmatic. When you are ready to provide feedback, complete the public consultation survey before June 1, 2025.
Once the first consultation is complete, SBTi will review all the feedback received and use it to help develop the next draft of the standard. This will go for a second round of consultation and pilot testing. Details of how to apply to the pilot will be made available at a later date.
Stakeholders are strongly encouraged to submit their feedback via the official public consultation survey, which is the primary channel through which submissions will be reviewed and analysed.
In cases where stakeholders are submitting consolidated or aggregate feedback that cannot reasonably be submitted through the online survey, these may be sent to standards@sciencebasedtargets.org.
When providing feedback by email, please ensure that:
- Each comment clearly references the relevant section or criterion of the standard; and
- It is specified whether the submission can be made public as part of the consultation summary.

Please note that feedback submitted outside the official consultation channels and unclear or incomplete submissions may not be reviewed or considered as part of the consultation process.
