The SBTi at COP28

The global stocktake will be unequivocal: climate action needs to increase, fast.

As countries gather to progress climate ambitions at COP28, we are experiencing the hottest year on record. The opportunity to prevent the worst for our planet is growing smaller with each day of inaction. We must see a surge of science-based climate action, and companies across the globe must play their part in driving ambitious decarbonization.

The SBTi's Focus at COP28

Since the launch of the SBTi's Net-Zero Standard in October 2021, more than 500 companies across countries and sectors have set science-based net-zero targets. Now, the SBTi is on the cusp of reaching 4000 companies with validated science-based targets, a number that has almost doubled since COP27.

To limit the increasingly apparent and devastating effects of climate change, we must see thousands more companies setting the most ambitious reduction targets possible.

The SBTi is calling on companies to take action on their supply chains. Scope 3 emissions are the largest source of emissions from companies - they can be 11.4 times larger than direct emissions on average according to CDP.

If companies unite in this mission, they can create the seismic change required by the global stocktake.
