How SBTi develops Standards
The SBTi follows a structured process for developing and revising Standards, as set out in the Standard Operating Procedure for the Development of SBTi Standards.
The process includes research, technical assessment, public consultation, pilot testing, and formal governance review. These steps help ensure that Standards are grounded in science, informed by practical experience and developed through transparent decision-making.
Depending on the stage of development, stakeholders may have the opportunity to contribute through public consultations, pilot testing or other engagement opportunities.

Open opportunities
The SBTi is conducting a review of its FLAG Guidance in line with its 2026-2030 strategy and its Standard Operating Procedure for Development of SBTi Standards.
If you work in the FLAG sector, then we want to hear from you. You are invited to complete this survey as part of a structured engagement program to gather high-quality, real-world feedback and evidence. These insights will directly inform version 2 of the FLAG Standard.
The survey will remain open until October 8 2026, 23:59 PDT (Pacific Daylight Time, UTC-7).

The SBTi is hosting a series of virtual regional stakeholder convenings with FLAG companies. This is an opportunity for companies to share insights that will directly inform version 2 of the FLAG Standard.
The convenings will consist of three virtual roundtables held monthly via Zoom commencing late September or early October, 2026. Participants are expected to attend all three sessions. Accepted participants will be assigned to a regional working group based on the location of their headquarters.
To qualify for participation, organizations must either operate primarily within an SBTi FLAG-designated sector or have FLAG-related emissions representing 20% or more of total company emissions across scopes 1, 2, and 3. Those that have completed the call for evidence will be considered favorably during the participant selection process.

The SBTi has published an updated draft of its Power Sector Net-Zero Standard for a second public consultation, inviting businesses and other interested stakeholders to provide input.
The public consultation is open until August 31, 2026 (11:59 PM PT). Review the updated draft and share your feedback to help develop a robust, practical Standard that supports businesses and accelerates climate action.

Do you work in a high-emitting sector? Then the SBTi wants to hear from you. You are invited to complete this survey to inform and guide the evolution of our work for high-emitting companies.
This call for evidence is the start of our new structured engagement program with companies as part of our 2026-2030 strategy. It is designed to close the gap between SBTi's science-based requirements and the operational realities facing high-emitting companies today. Our aim is to gather high-quality, real-world data and evidence to enable the development of truly fit-for-purpose sector resources.

All updated and new resources will go through extensive scrutiny, including stakeholder feedback and pilot testing. The public commenting period for the supporting documentation for the Methods, Metrics, and Pathways that accompany the Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2.0 has now closed.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to review the documentation, test its clarity, usability and structure, and share feedback. This will help refine the guidance supporting implementation of Version 2.0 of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard.
About the methods, metrics, and pathways
The methods, metrics and pathways (MMPs) support implementation of the Standard by providing the calculation approaches, benchmarks and emissions reduction trajectories used to translate climate goals into company-level target setting and performance assessment.
Scope of the public comment period
The public comment period focused on the clarity, usability, structure, and completeness of the supporting documentation. Stakeholders were invited to review the methods, pathways, and how they apply across scopes and sectors.
The feedback received will shape how the MMPs are structured, explained, and implemented. The underlying scientific and technical calculations that form the basis of the MMPs have already undergone extensive stakeholder review through two prior public consultations during the development of the Standard, and were outside the scope of this commenting period.
