The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) was launched in 2015 to support companies in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the latest climate science and avoid the dangerous consequences of climate change. Of the more than 500 companies that have either set or committed to set science-based targets (SBTs), not one is from the aluminum sector.

The aluminum sector has an important role to play in the transition to a low-carbon economy, for example through increased demand for aluminum in low carbon and energy saving technologies in the transportation and engineering sectors and the built environment. Yet, companies in the sector face a number of challenges in setting SBTs.

This webinar will introduce the SBTi’s aluminum sector project, which aims to lay a foundation for the development of tools and guidance to enable aluminum sector companies to set SBTs. This project will be led by World Resources Institute (WRI), in collaboration with the International Aluminium Institute. WRI will engage sector experts to identify challenges to setting SBTs and options for next generation resources. We look forward to sharing the project with you and gathering your feedback.
