Net-Zero Case Study - Asahi Group Holdings
Asahi Group Holdings and the Corporate Net-Zero Standard case study
The following case study was developed and provided by Asahi Group Holdings and reflects the company's experience and perspective as a pilot participant in the development of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard Version 2.0.
Why a practical, action-focused Standard matters to us as a pilot company
Asahi Group Holdings is a global food and beverage company with brands including Asahi Super Dry, Peroni, and Grolsch. Our net-zero targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and we have committed to reaching net-zero emissions across our value chain by 2040. In 2024, we became the first company in Japan to earn SBTi approval for both our short-term and long-term targets, including forest, land and agriculture (FLAG) emissions. Asahi is one of the pilot companies for the revised Corporate Net-Zero Standard, Version 2.0.
Standards that shape decisions across our business
Science-based frameworks provide a clear and credible pathway for reducing emissions in line with climate science. They help us make informed decisions, maintain momentum in implementation, and measure progress consistently as we work toward our long-term sustainability goals.
Collaboration across our value chain
We are already collaborating with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders across our value chain. We are driving a wide range of initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, strengthen implementation, and create long-term value for both society and our business. This collaborative approach is essential to achieving our decarbonization and sustainability goals and the SBTi provides the common framework that makes this possible.
Our support for Version 2.0 and a practical path to action
Asahi welcomes Version 2.0 of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard. By combining scientific rigor with a practical and implementable approach, the revised framework provides companies like ours with a credible pathway to accelerate decarbonization and translate ambition into measurable progress. We commend the SBTi for developing a standard that reflects the urgency of climate action, while recognizing the realities of delivering change across complex value chains. We also appreciate the extensive stakeholder engagement that has helped shape a standard that reflects both climate ambition and the practical realities of implementation.
