Upcoming changes to the SBTi Target Dashboard
Aug 13th 2026
On September 24, 2026, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) will introduce updates to the SBTi Target Dashboard to align with the revised Commitment and Target Status Document, the UN M49 standard, and improve data consistency across SBTi platforms. Taylor Frerichs, SBTi Services Senior Manager, Dashboard and Data, explains what is changing.
The SBTi Target Dashboard provides up-to-date information about the corporates, financial institutions and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that have committed to set or have set science-based targets. Updated every Thursday (except for two weeks during the December holiday period), it is a key source of information on the global uptake of science-based targets across regions and sectors.
The Dashboard is widely used by businesses tracking target setting across their supply chains, by financial markets to guide investment decision-making, and by civil society and academic organizations monitoring corporate climate action and accountability.
The Target Dashboard updates will reflect the revised Commitment and Target Status Document. The changes will also improve data consistency across SBTi platforms. These updates will be reflected in both the interactive Dashboard, as well as the downloadable datasets.
As the Target Dashboard is widely used across different audiences, we are sharing these changes in advance to give regular users time to prepare before they take effect.
The updates comprise:
- Revised terminology for company statuses.
- Updated commitment- and target-level status classifications.
- Updated status descriptions and associated reasons.
At the same time, we will also update the Dashboard’s regional and territory classifications to align with the UN M49 standard and ensure consistency with other SBTi publications including the Trend Tracker.
Once the new statuses are available on the SBTi Target Dashboard, on September 24, 2026, the Commitment and Target Status Document will supersede the existing Commitment Compliance Policy.
