Get involved today: Your chance to help shape the next generation of SBTi Standards
Aug 17th 2026
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) develops and updates its Standards through a rigorous, transparent, and multistakeholder process. Feedback and consultation are central to ensuring that Standards remain scientifically robust, credible and practical to implement.
The SBTi’s 2026-2030 Strategy marks a decisive shift from ambition to implementation. Moving forward, we will continue to develop Standards that uphold scientific rigor and credibility, while enabling companies to translate science-based ambition into practical action and measurable, real-world progress towards net-zero.
Part of this shift means an evolution of the SBTi’s role from ambition-setter to transformation partner. This includes evolving our Standards to be more action-focused and tailored to different sectors, geographies and operating contexts, while strengthening partnerships, and expanding into high-emitting sectors and regions.
Insights from business, civil society, government, and beyond are an important part of this evolution. By bringing together scientific expertise with real-world data, evidence and experience, engagement helps the SBTi understand implementation challenges and develop approaches that are practical and fit for purpose, while maintaining the scientific integrity and ambition that underpin SBTi Standards.
The SBTi’s strategy places specific emphasis on deepening engagement across high-emitting sectors and regions. This is critical to maximizing the impact of corporate climate action and ensuring that sector-specific approaches can reflect the realities of different industries and operating contexts. As the SBTi continues to evolve its sector resources alongside the Corporate Net-Zero Standard Version 2.0, stakeholder input will help inform practical approaches that support implementation and accelerate emissions reductions.
As such, we’ve opened several opportunities to directly engage with the SBTi:
- Call for Evidence: High-emitting sectors. Stakeholders from the aluminium, aviation, steel, and other high-emitting industries are invited to complete this survey by September 11, 2026. This call for evidence is part of the SBTi’s new structured engagement approach with companies and aim is to gather high-quality, real-world data, and evidence to inform the development of fit-for-purpose sector resources.
- Power Sector Net-Zero Standard second public consultation. The SBTi is developing a Power Sector Net-Zero Standard, which is now open for a second public consultation until September 7, 2026. We welcome anyone with an interest in the power sector’s transition to net-zero to review the updated draft Standard and target-setting tool, along with other supportive documentation, and share feedback to help develop a robust, practical Standard that supports businesses and accelerates climate action.
- Expression of interest: FLAG regional stakeholder convenings. The SBTi has initiated a project to develop Version 2 of the FLAG Standard, and is hosting a series of virtual regional convenings for those working in the sector to share insights that will directly inform the project. Those interested in participating should complete the application form by September 8, 2026.
- Call for Evidence: FLAG. Those who work in the FLAG sector are invited to complete the survey before October 8, 2026. The call aims to gather high-quality, real-world evidence and feedback to inform the development of Version 2 of the FLAG Standard.
Take part in these opportunities to help close the gap between the SBTi's science-based requirements and the operational realities facing high-emitting companies today.
