Final campaign evaluation report published, including commitments removed

The SBTi has published its final evaluation report of the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign.
On March 7 2024, the SBTi published its final evaluation report of the Business Ambition for 1.5°C, a campaign conducted from June 2019 to October 2021. The Business Ambition 1.5°C Final Report analyzes campaign metrics and company feedback from a survey and feedback form to distill learnings for its future as a standard-setter and validations services provider.
1045 companies joined the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign, of which 971 were analyzed for the report, excluding those that went through mergers or acquisitions or that are pending updated sector-specific guidance like financial institutions.
Of this 971, the report found that (84%) of companies set a science-based target. 239 companies from the campaign had net-zero commitments removed on March 7, 60% of which had near-term targets set. Around half of the companies which responded to the survey cited scope 3 being too much of a challenge as a barrier to setting net-zero targets.
