Call for Evidence on Environmental Attribute Certificates
Background
As part of the major revision of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is undertaking in adherence with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Development of SBTi Standards, in 2023 the SBTi held an open call for evidence on the effectiveness of the use of Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) in corporate climate targets.
Under this call for evidence, the SBTi defines EACs as: instruments used to quantify, verify and track the environmental benefits associated with commodities, activities or projects. More details are available here.
Accessing the evidence submitted
The SBTi received 438 pieces of eligible evidence (as per the eligibility criteria) during the call for evidence. This evidence is listed in the table below, which is also available to download in .XLS format.
Of the pieces of eligible evidence received, 406 pieces were submitted via an online survey (where submitters agreed for the evidence to be externally published) and 32 were submitted via email.
The eligibility criteria in the call for evidence meant that evidence was excluded for the following reasons:
The submitter was anonymous,
The evidence was sent to the SBTi outside of the call for evidence period, and/or
Survey respondents did not agree to the survey terms.
Instructions for use
Each piece of evidence is listed in the table below.
