The SBTi has launched a new SBTi Services website with information and resources for businesses setting commitments and submitting targets for validation.
The SBTi has launched a new SBTi Services website, which contains information and resources for businesses setting commitments and submitting targets for validation.
In recent years there has been exceptional growth in the number of businesses using SBTi’s standards, tools and guidance to set science-based targets and have them validated – a close to 60% increase in the number of businesses with validated science-based targets over the past nine months alone.
To meet this growing demand, the SBTi launched a major scale-up operation last year, to demerge from partner organizations and become an independent charity, while also strengthening governance through the greater differentiation between its standard-setting and validation activities. As a result, the SBTi – the parent standard-setter charitable organization – has established SBTi Services Limited – a wholly owned subsidiary to provide target validation services. The differentiation between these entities is designed to allow both activities to scale at pace, while continuing to drive excellence by supporting organizations in their decarbonization journeys.
As of today, SBTi Services site hosts the SBTi Services Validation Portal (‘the Validation Portal’), an important first step in streamlining and making the validation and associated processes more user-friendly. Please review the Services website here and our selection of tutorials for more information on the Portal’s key features, navigation and benefits.
Launching sbtiservices.com is one of the many steps the SBTi is taking to transform the way it operates to support businesses across the world looking to drive much-needed climate action through decarbonization.
Sue Jenny Ehr, Interim CEO of SBTi, said:
“Setting targets is the crucial first step businesses take in their decarbonization journey. Over the last decade, the SBTi has validated the targets of over 6,000 businesses with another 3,000 committed to submit targets. If we are to collectively meet climate goals, we need to move further and faster. We have established SBTi Services to help meet the urgent demand for validation services and launching innovative solutions such as the Validation Portal to make the target setting process that bit easier. These initiatives are laying the groundwork for businesses to move forward with reducing their emissions and driving much needed climate action.”
SBTi Services will continue to evolve the Validation Portal to meet business needs, launching an expanded product with all elements of the validation process housed within the Validation Portal in 2025.
Updated October 29th to reflect the release of the SBTi Services Validation Portal.
