The Cement Science-Based Target Setting Guidance Launch
On September 21st, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is launching the first science-based framework for companies in the cement sector to set near-and-long term targets in line with 1.5°C - the Cement Science Based Target Setting Guidance.
This industry represents about 7% of the CO2 emissions globally and its demand by 2050 is projected to continue rising by 20% more than today, in the absence of efforts to optimize its use in buildings and construction (IEA, 2020).
Companies in the cement sector have a critical role to play in the transformation to a net-zero economy, and preventing the catastrophic impacts of climate breakdown.
This virtual event will introduce the SBTi Cement Guidance and discuss how businesses in this industry can set robust emissions reduction targets in line with climate science, and accelerate their decarbonization efforts at the depth and pace needed to enable a 1.5°C future.
