Karl Downey

Karl is the Head of Sectoral Development at SBTi. He joined SBTi in August 2021 and led the development of sectoral guidance for the steel, cement, and building industries. Prior to joining SBTi, he worked in the cement industry for 10 years, focusing on strategy, emissions trading, GHG accounting, life cycle assessment, and sustainable construction. Karl holds a postgraduate certification in sustainability from the University of Cambridge and is a mechanical engineer. Originally from Ireland, he currently lives in Madrid, Spain.
