The SBTi is seeking Engagement and Customer Support Managers to help companies seeking subject matter expertise relating to the target validation process and applying SBTi standards. These positions will be critical to improving the customer experience for companies interacting with SBTi Services, ensuring they understand the SBTi requirements for setting science-based targets and have support to discuss technical queries such as target updates, application of sector standards, or bioenergy accounting.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Technical Support: Provide prompt, accurate technical assistance to companies navigating the validation process for their science-based targets. Answer inquiries regarding interpreting and applying SBTi standards and guidelines, including sector-specific standards and nuances.
  • Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with companies undergoing validation. Proactively reach out to customers to offer support and guidance before and following the validation process and at key milestones in the customer journey.
  • Executive Communication: Engage directly with executives and sustainability managers at client companies, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and expertise. Conduct calls and meetings to address technical questions and provide strategic guidance on setting ambitious science-based targets.

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) seeks a Built Environment Engagement Specialist to drive engagement with companies, industry associations, civil society, and other global stakeholders. This pivotal role will contribute to the SBTi's mission of promoting science-based emissions reduction targets across the built environment sector and catalyzing sustainability efforts across global economies.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Develop a Built Environmental engagement strategy that promotes adopting the SBTi building standards by identifying and prioritizing sub-sectors, regions, and organizations for engagement and identifying, initiating, and developing partnerships.

  • Continuously understand SBTi's evolving building standards, guidance, tools, and ongoing consultations.

  • Collaborate closely with priority companies in the sector to provide expert guidance and support, addressing their inquiries and needs promptly.

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is seeking an experienced and credible AFOLU Engagement Manager to engage with a broad range of stakeholders operating in the AFOLU sector, including AFOLU companies, value chain partners, industry associations, academia, and other NGOs and civil society actors. This role is critical to SBTi’s outreach and engagement strategy to bring high-impact sectors into the initiative and catalyze rapid, scaled emissions reductions.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Support targeted stakeholder engagement throughout the development of SBTi’s standards and guidance, specifically related to the AFOLU sector.

  • Engage directly with companies operating in the AFOLU sector to understand sector-specific challenges and opportunities.

  • Support SBTi’s engagement in relevant technical working groups and third-party consultations as appropriate.

  • Promote ambitious climate action in the sector through participation in events, initiatives, partnerships, and coalitions.

The Capacity Building Manager will be responsible for leading the SBTi Training Program and developing key engagement resources that are essential for recruiting, retaining, and building the capacity of companies, financial institutions, and other stakeholders in setting science-based targets, ensuring that all training materials and engagement resources are tailored to various levels of maturity and knowledge, reflect the latest technical developments, and align with the broader goals of accelerating global climate action, enabling organizations to effectively contribute to a net-zero economy.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain, update, and manage the SBTi Training Program, ensuring the content is up-to-date, relevant, accessible, and culturally appropriate for a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Manage the relationship with the SBTi Training Program content developer and LMS provider, ensuring that the training content is of the highest quality, the LMS platform functions seamlessly, and all deliverables are completed on time.

  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, including the Technical Department, Target Validation Team, and Communications Department, ensuring the training content is always up to date with the latest technical developments, validation criteria, and processes and that it is communicated using the most effective strategies to reach the intended audience.

  • Work in close collaboration with the Target Validation Team, coordinating all necessary interactions between the SBTi Training Program and the SBTi Services Certification Program, content and operational related, ensuring that both Programs are aligned.

The Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative is looking for a Subject Matter Expert, Energy to support the Sector Standards Team’s work on the energy sectors.


As the SME, Energy, the position will focus in particular on supporting the development of the Power sector standard, but also the Oil & Gas standard and other energy-related questions and projects (such as bioenergy). Over time, the role will broaden its scope to cover energy and bioenergy questions across the Sector Standards Team.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Provides subject matter expertise to inform the development of SBTi’s technical outputs, in particular for the energy and bioenergy sectors, such as standards, guidance explanatory documents, tools, etc.

  • Collaborates with senior team members to draft, review, and finalize major outputs of the Technical Department in line with SBTi’s Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Monitors emerging trends, research, and policies relevant to the organization's work to maintain cutting-edge expertise.

  • Prepares technical material, e.g. presentations, webinars, and workshops to disseminate key findings and/or gather further input from internal and external stakeholders and delivers this material independently and/or in collaboration with the Lead.

The Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative is looking for a Subject Matter Expert, AFOLU to support the Sector Standards Team’s work on the agriculture, forestry, and land use (AFOLU) sectors.


As the SME, AFOLU, the position will focus in particular on supporting the development of the future AFOLU sector standards and implementation of the current SBTi FLAG guidance.

  • Provides subject matter expertise to inform the development of SBTi’s technical outputs, in particular for the AFOLU sectors, such as standards, guidance explanatory documents, tools, etc.

  • Collaborates with senior team members to draft, review, and finalize major outputs of the Technical Department in line with SBTi’s Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Monitors emerging trends, research, and policies relevant to the organization's work to maintain cutting-edge expertise.

  • Prepares technical material, e.g. presentations, webinars, and workshops to disseminate key findings and/or gather further input from internal and external stakeholders and delivers this material independently and/or in collaboration with the Lead.

The Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative is looking for an Associate or Senior Associate to join the highly motivated Corporate Standards Team at the Science Based Targets initiative. The (Senior) Associate will report to the Product Owner, Corporate Net-Zero Standard, and will work within the Corporate Standards team that developed the SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard - the first standard for setting corporate net-zero targets in line with climate science. This is a very exciting time to join the team since we are undertaking a major revision to the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard and associated resources.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates with senior team members to provide technical input to discussions and material that support the development of SBTi’s technical resources in line with SBTi’s Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Supports the preparation of technical material, e.g. presentations, webinars, and workshops to disseminate key findings and/or gather further input from internal and external stakeholders in collaboration with senior colleagues.

  • Independently carries out (numerical) technical analysis, e.g. GHG accounting rules or target-setting tools, etc. as part of project deliverables.

  • Contributes to cross-departmental collaboration to maximize the impact and applicability of their work.

The Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative is looking for a Quality Associate who has experience in international voluntary sustainability standard-setting and assurance organizations. The Quality Associate supports the Quality Team in planning, delivering, and achieving their annual work plan and projects and is vital in supporting detailed documentation management and task coordination. They also exemplify respectful behavior, open communication, and integrity, embodying SBTi’s values and supporting a positive, healthy work culture.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Assists in developing and managing the annual quality work plan, including timelines and milestones. The experience of Asana is valued.

  • Monitors and reports on progress, ensuring adherence to schedules and goals.

  • Assist in the preparation, coordination, and facilitation of meetings, workshops, and consultations.

  • Maintains up-to-date documentation and administration, including minutes, reports, and progress updates. Ensures accuracy of information and structure, and easy access.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has an exciting opportunity for a Data analyst. Joining the growing Data & Technology team within the SBTi’s global operations team, you will collaborate closely with the Impact team to ensure that the SBTi Data is used effectively to create impact within the climate community.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Lead on data cleaning and data quality assessment exercises;

  • Support data analysis and internal decision-making by creating data visualization frameworks and dashboards;

  • Provide workshops and training to support SBTi staff in developing skills to support the organizational goal of data excellence;

  • Collect and document team feedback to be fed into organizational change management projects to improve the use of data at SBTi;

Joining the growing digital function within SBTi’s global operations team, you will collaborate closely with other teams to ensure that the SBTi technology infrastructure is well supported and service excellence is at the core of the organization.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Own data architecture and work with the Data & Technology and Target Operations team to develop best-in-class data management structures;

  • Build and maintain integrations between enterprise systems (CRM, ERP, custom-built applications) and support collaboration between organizational dataflows;

  • Seek ways to optimize and automate current processes where data flows are present;

  • With the support of the Data & Technology team, develop data governance and best practices for the use of data to ensure teams are aware of and compliant with data security policies and follow best practices for maintaining high-quality data;
