Option 2: Launch Event: Foundations for Science-Based Net-Zero Targets in the Corporate Sector
Recognizing the importance of keeping global warming to 1.5°C, companies are increasingly adopting net-zero climate targets. But how can they be sure that their targets are consistent with the reductions that science tells us is needed?
On September 15, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) will release a new paper laying out the foundations for credible, science-based net-zero targets for the private sector. The paper will form the basis of forthcoming net-zero target validation criteria and guidance from the SBTi.
Join us for a webinar to learn more about the SBTi’s work to enable companies to set robust and credible net-zero targets in line with a 1.5°C future. Two sessions will be hosted to accommodate audiences across the globe. Please register to attend or receive a recording of the webinar.
Participants will hear a deep dive into the scientific context and main findings of the paper, learn about our ongoing work to develop a framework for corporate net-zero targets, and have an opportunity to ask questions directly to experts.
Over 270 companies have committed to reducing their emissions in line with reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 through the Business Ambition for 1.5 campaign, spearheaded by the SBTi. These companies are part of the “Race to Zero,” a UNFCCC campaign pushing to build momentum for a shift towards a decarbonised economy ahead of COP26 by mobilizing a coalition of leading net zero initiatives.
We look forward to working with you to pave the way for a common agreement on what net-zero means for companies in order for ambition to be translated into action that is consistent with achieving a net-zero world.
