In a webinar last week, the SBTi provided updates on its work; including introducing the new Technical Council that will serve as a permanent and independent decision-making body.
On March 27, Chief Executive Officer Luiz Amaral, Chief Technical Officer Alberto Carrillo Pineda, and Chief Impact Officer Maria Outters hosted a webinar to share an update on the SBTi’s work.
They highlighted the continued growth in the number of businesses setting targets, walked through key outputs, and detailed recent enhancements to its technical governance. Maria Outters also announced Anita Sheth as our new Compliance Director, the latest addition to our Executive Leadership Team.
The webinar culminated in the announcement of the SBTi’s new Technical Council, a permanent, independent decision-making body that will ensure the robustness and credibility of our standards, methods and guidance. The Technical Council will review and approve, and recommend the adoption of SBTi standards, guidance and methods. It is composed of 15 world renowned experts who span four core topics:
- Mitigation scenarios and pathways.
- Environmental impact assessment.
- Private sector mitigation.
- Equity and environmental justice.
