Breaking Ground: Introducing the Buildings Science-Based Target-Setting Guidance Draft for Pilot Testing

Date: 21 November 2023
Time: 09:00 am - 10:00 am CET
Location: Online

On November 21, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is launching the Buildings Science-Based Target-Setting Guidance and Tool Drafts for Pilot Testing. This will inform the development of robust, clear and practical resources for companies along the buildings value chain to set near- and long-term science-based targets in line with 1.5°C, including in-use operational and embodied emissions.

Register for session 1: 9:00 am (CET) / 4:00 pm (HKT)

Register for session 2: 10:00 am (ET) / 4:00 pm (CET)

The buildings sector is responsible for approximately a third of global annual greenhouse gas emissions. And, even though there has been a rapid increase in green building standards, the alignment with a 1.5°C trajectory – in terms of operational carbon, operational energy or embodied carbon – has not been determined, until now.

The SBTi Buildings Guidance and Tool Drafts for Pilot Testing take into account sector-specific barriers and opportunities, to offer a common, robust, science-based pathway to how much and how quickly a company needs to cut its emissions to be in line with the Paris Agreement goal.

This virtual event will introduce the SBTi Buildings Guidance and Tool Drafts for Pilot Testing, and discuss how businesses in this sector can submit their applications to participate in the pilot testing, apply the framework, test the feasibility of the guidance and tool using their datasets, and help identify any possible amendment that needs to be done to inform its applicability across regions and businesses.
